Extradition of Mr Lazar Sekulich, a citizen of Serbia, who is accused of theft, to Russia from Montenegro
Today, at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of the Republic of Montenegro are extraditing to Russia Lazar Sekulich, a citizen of Serbia.
The investigation bodies accuse him of the commission of the crime, envisaged Article 158 (2 "c") (theft, that is the secret stealing of another's property, incurring considerable damage to a citizen) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
Due to the fact that Sekulich had absconded from the law enforcement agencies, in June 2007 his international search was announced, and in October 2009 he was detained on the territory of the Republic of Montenegro.
In November 2009, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation forwarded to the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Montenegro a request for the extradition of Sekulich to Russia in order to bring him to criminal liability.
In February 2010, the competent authorities of Montenegro passed a decision to comply with the request for extradition.
It should be noted that Sekulich is the first person extradited to Russia by the competent authorities of the Republic of Montenegro.
