Delegation of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation made a two-day working visit to Bulgaria.

The Russian party was represented by Mr. Yury Chaika, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, Mr. Denis Grunis, Head of the General Department of International Legal Cooperation, and other high officials of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation.

During the second day of the visit the Russian delegation met with Ms. Iliana Yotova, Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr. Boyko Borisov, Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria, Ms. Tsetska Tsacheva, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Bulgaria, as well as with Patriarch of all Bulgaria and Metropolitan of Sofia Neophyte.

The Russian Prosecutor General and the Bulgarian Head of the Government discussed a number of problems of economic nature. Moreover, in the course of conversation with Mr. Borisov, Mr. Chaika expressed his strong disagreement with Mr. Borisov’s statements that Russia allegedly represents a danger to Bulgaria. “Our people has always been very close to each other”, Mr. Chaika stressed.

While meeting with Ms. Iliana Yotova, Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr. Chaika noted that Russian tourists had increasingly chosen Bulgaria as a place for their rest. Therefore it is important to ensure security of Russian and Bulgarian nationals. No state can do it by itself due to modern threats and challenges such as international terrorism and extremism. Therefore competent authorities of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Bulgaria should combine their efforts to combat transnational crime.

Mr. Yury Chaika reminded that on the first day of the visit the program of cooperation had been signed between the prosecution services of Russia and Bulgaria, which provided for exchange of experience in suppressing transnational organized crime, including illegal migration.

In conclusion, Mr. Yury Chaika, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, congratulated Ms. Iliana Yotova on the forthcoming holiday, namely, Independence Day. He wished Bulgarian people happiness and prosperity.
