The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation hosted a meeting with the Director General of Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe

Today, on October 26, 2017, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation hosted a meeting with Christos Giakoumopoulos, Director General of Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe.

The meeting was attended by Saak Karapetyan, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, Christine Mary, Law Reforms and Human Rights Adviser of the Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe, as well as by heads of units of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and representatives of the Secretariat of the Council of Europe.

In his welcoming speech, the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Saak Karapetyan congratulated C. Giakoumopoulos on the appointment to the responsible position.

He highly appreciated the cooperation of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation with the Council of Europe which allows familiarizing with the best practices of ensuring of the protection of the citizens’ rights. In the same time, such interaction gives an opportunity to convey to foreign partners the Russian experience of ensuring the rule of law and counteracting challenges and threats to the global security, Saak Karapetyan noted.

The Russian party and the Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law have established a constructive relationship based on the mutual understanding. The interaction is realized within the frameworks of the joint programs of cooperation of Russia with the Council of Europe. In particular, HELP programs for implementation of the European human rights education for legal professionals system in Russia.

At the beginning of October, the first meeting of the working group on implementation of the HELP educational course for the Russian prosecutors training took place at the Academy of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation.

In conclusion, the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation expressed hope for maintaining of the bilateral dialog which will undoubtedly serve to strengthen the cooperation of the Prosecution Service of Russia with the Council of Europe.
