Meeting held between the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chayka and the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Russian Federation

Today, on the 27th of February 2018, a meeting was held between the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chayka and the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba in the Russian Federation Gerardo Penalver Portal.

The meeting was attended by Deputies Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Saak Karapetyan and Vladimir Malinovsky, as well as by heads of subdivisions of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and by the members of the Cuban delegation.

Yury Chayka noted that Russia and Cuba are connected with long-standing friendly and warm relations based on mutual interest in strengthening the international security.

He stressed that signing the Agreement on Cooperation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Cuba in 2011 became an important step in the establishment and development of the interaction with Cuban prosecutors.

The Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation also told about the practical realization of the joint Memorandum in the framework of which three programs were signed, and two of them have already been implemented.

In the course of the carried out workshops, meetings and round tables, prosecutors from Russia and Cuba exchanged the best practices, in particular, in the sphere of criminal proceeding, counteracting human trafficking, illicit drug trafficking, legalization of proceeds from crime, as well as in the field of protection of citizens’ rights and freedoms.

The prosecutors training took place on the basis of the Academy of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation.

Delegations of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation headed, as a rule, by one of the Deputies Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation take part in international conferences on criminal law organized annually by the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Cuba.

In the next conference, scheduled for March, Nikolay Vinnichenko, Deputy Prosecutor General, will take part.

Furthermore, Yury Chayka told that he regularly meets with the Attorney General of Cuba Dario Delgado Cura.

In conclusion, the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation thanked the diplomat for the active participation of the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in the events carried out with Cuban partners, and expressed hope for the same fruitful cooperation in the future.
