Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Mr. Saak Karapetyan took part in the 23rd Annual Conference and General Meeting of the International Association of Prosecutors

The delegation of the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia headed by Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Saak Karapetyan took part in the 23rd Annual Conference and General Meeting of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) on the topic "Independence of Prosecutors. The Cornerstone of Justice for Society" in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 9 to 13 of September.

More than 400 representatives of prosecutors from 94 foreign countries and 11 international organizations attended the above-mentioned international events.

At the IAP General Assembly, Deputy General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation Saak Karapetyan was unanimously elected as a member of the Executive Committee of the Association for 2018-2021.

During the Fourth Plenary Session of the IAP Annual Conference "Independence of the Prosecution Service and Public Confidence" on 13 September 2018, Mr. Saak Karapetyan made a presentation on "Mechanisms ensuring the independence of the prosecutor in the Russian Federation".

At the panel discussion on consumer protection, Mr. Vladimir Zimin, Senior Assistant to the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation for Special Assignments, also made a report.

The experience of the Prosecutor General 's Office of the Russian Federation, presented in the the reports, aroused the genuine interest of foreign partners.

During these events, Mr. Saak Karapetyan held more than ten bilateral meetings with colleagues from foreign prosecutorial services, including with Attorneys Generals of Belgium, Greece, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Switzerland and South Korea.

In addition, during the meeting with the IAP President G. Jarosch and the Secretary General of IAP H. Moraal, the issues related to the functioning of the Regional IAP Office in St. Petersburg were discussed. The IAP management commended the activities of the Regional Office.
