Today, on November 7, 2018, a meeting between Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Mr. Yury Chayka and President of the General Inspection Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mr. Naser Seraj took place.

Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Mr. Nikolay Vinnichenko, heads of divisions of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mr. Mr. Mehdi Sanaei, Vice President of the General Inspection Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mr. Mansour Agh Mohammadi and other representatives of the Iranian delegation participated in the meeting.

Mr. Yury Chayka reminded that three years ago a similar meeting had been held, where the prospects of the Russian-Iranian cooperation had been discussed.

In September this year during the meeting of Presidents of Russia and Iran in Teheran the strategical and multidimensional nature of relations between Russia and Iran was underlined.

Cooperation with the Attorney General’s Office of Iran is being developed both in bilateral and multilateral formats.

In November last year the Memorandum on Understanding and Cooperation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia and Attorney General’s Office of Iran was signed on the margins of the 15th meeting of Prosecutors General of the Member-States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. This document provides for possibility to share experience on organization of different directions of the prosecutorial activity.

For the purpose of the Memorandum’s implementation, the delegation of the Attorney General’s Office of the Islamic Republic of Iran participated in the workshop on counteraction to the use of information and communication technologies for terrorist aims. This workshop was organized by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia in June this year in Moscow for prosecutors from the Member-States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the BRICS and the Commonwealth of Independent States.

In the future it is also planned to conduct such events for sharing experience in the spheres specified in the Memorandum, including the fight against different forms of organized crime, terrorism, illegal trafficking in narcotic drugs and weapons, crimes in the sphere of economics and high technologies and corruption.

Mr. Yury Chayka said that fighting corruption is one of the most important areas of activity of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation.

Russian prosecutors have a vast experience of international anticorruption cooperation. They actively interact with the Group of States against Corruption – GRECO, created within the framework of the Council of Europe, and also actively participate in the work of the Interstate Council for Combating Corruption, which coordinates the counteraction to corruption on the territory of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

In order to share experience in this sphere and subject to the competence of the General Inspection Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Mr. Yury Chayka suggested organizing the event with participation of experts of the agency and of the prosecutor’s offices of Russia and Iran.

The Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation underlined the significance for the Russian party of creation in 2017 of the Eurasian alliance of human-rights ombudsmen, the first human rights union in the history, and the Iranian delegation came to Moscow to participate in its meeting.

Mr. Yury Chayka once again confirmed the intent to support the existing progressive nature of development of the Russian-Iranian relations.
