Mr. Yury CHAIKA, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, met with Mr. Michalis Kalogirou, Minister of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights of the Hellenic Republic

Today, on March 6, 2019, in Athens, Mr. Yury CHAIKA, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, has met with Mr. Michalis KALOGIROU, Minister of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights of the Hellenic Republic.

Mr. Yury CHAIKA has headed the delegation of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, consisting of Mr. Leonid KORZHINEK, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, heads of the divisions of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and other representatives of the supervision body.

The head of the Russian delegation expressed his gratitude for cordial welcome.

He noted that Russia and Greece are tied with longstanding friendship, common pages in history and spiritual closeness.

Mr. Yury CHAIKA highlighted the efforts of the Greek authorities that have changed national economics during last three years, the increase of Russian-Greek coordination, cooperation of businessmen from Russia and Greece, growing tourist flows.

He particularly noted the fruitful joint activity of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Justice of Greece, which are the central competent authorities in extradition and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.

The Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation gave high assessment to the potential of these relations and suggested concluding an Agreement on Cooperation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Justice of Greece in order to fulfill it.

We have been fulfilling the forth Cooperation Program between the Russian and Greek prosecution services, Mr. Yury CHAIKA recalled. During the joint events the colleagues exchange best practices and experience in protection of human rights and combating crime. Strengthening of contacts on expert level will also help to obtain results in solving difficult practical problems.

The head of the Russian delegation also expressed his confidence that there should not be politics in justice and a deliberate approach to solving any problem is needed.

In conclusion, Mr. Yury CHAIKA expressed the hope for further development and strengthening of Russian-Greek relations for the benefit of the people of two states.
