Meeting between Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chayka and Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia Dejan Židan

Today, on February 14, 2019, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chayka had a meeting with Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia Dejan Židan in Ljubljana.

Mr. Chayka headed the delegation of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, which also included Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Leonid Korzhinek, heads of structural divisions of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and other representatives of the supervisory authority.

The head of the Russian delegation thanked the Slovenian party for the warm welcome and paid attention to the hospitality and friendliness of the Slovenian people, and the beauty and cosiness of the city of Ljubljana.

He noted that Russia and Slovenia have the long-lasting traditions of friendly relations, based on the mutual interest to strengthen international peace and security. The countries actively develop political dialogue, conduct meetings on the level of Presidents of Russia and Slovenia, Chairmen of Parliaments, Ministers of Foreign Affairs and other heads of ministries and agencies. Mr. Chayka highly appreciated the attention, paid by the leadership of Slovenia to the development of the Russian-Slovenian relations.

The Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation noted the solicitous attitude of the Slovenian people to the war graves and memorials of the Russian soldiers on the Slovenian soil and expressed his personal gratitude for such treatment. He also said that during the visit he intended to lay wreathes to the monument to the Russian and Soviet servicemen, died on the Slovenian soil during the two world wars, which was opened in the capital of Slovenia in 2016 by the heads of two States. Mr. Chayka stressed out that it is important to preserve the historical evidences of tragic events of the previous century not only for our generation, but also for the next ones. We should always remember that our fathers, grandfathers and forefathers gave their lives to secure the lives of their descendants in a peaceful world and free society built under the rule of law.

The head of the Russian delegation expressed confidence that in the era of globalization it is possible to fight against new challenges and threats only by joint efforts. The basis for consolidation of such efforts was created in 2012 in Ljubljana, when the Agreement on Cooperation between the Prosecutor’s Services of Russia and Slovenia was signed. In the coming two years the Russian and Slovenian prosecutors will have a chance to communicate directly on the topical issues of the fight against transnational crime.

In conclusion Mr. Chayka confirmed that the Russian party will do its best to promote the further development of strategic partnership between Russia and Slovenia.
