Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov held a videoconference meeting with Prosecutor General of the Portuguese Republic Lucilia Gago, in the course of which the Memorandum on Understanding between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Portuguese Republic was firstly signed.
Igor Krasnov expressed his confidence that its conclusion would facilitate strengthening of effectiveness of joint efforts of prosecutor’s services of Russia and Portugal in counteraction to the most dangerous challenges and threats to public security, including organized crime, terrorism, extremism, corruption, illegal turnover of narcotic drugs, weapon and economic crimes. The Prosecutor General also stressed out that cybercrime, illegal usage of cryptocurrency and other digital e-assets, which became more acute due to the coronavirus pandemic, became a genuine challenge for the world.
The fact that these issues were reflected in the Memorandum along with the topic of recovery of property obtained in illegal way, makes this document topical and responsive to the today’s needs.
The Memorandum provides for such forms of cooperation between the parties as the exchange of information on legislation, state and trends of crime, experience and best practices in the sphere of protection of human rights and freedoms, conduct of consultations on legal issues, other international events, including reciprocal visits of experts, cooperation in training and professional development of prosecutors.
