A meeting was held today between Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chaika and First Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Senegal Papa Umar Saho

A meeting between Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chaika and First Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Senegal Papa Umar Saho was held today in the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation. Also took part in the meeting Gai Abdulai, Prosecutor General at the Supreme Court of the Republic of Senegal.

In his welcoming address Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation mentioned positive trends in the cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Senegal, confirmed by the similar attitude towards major international problems, as well as the urge to broaden mutually beneficial relations.

Yury Chaika in his address dwelt on the major directions of the activities of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation: protection of human rights and freedoms, surveillance over observance of the Constitution of the Russian Federation and execution of laws, criminal prosecution and some others. Speaking about international cooperation, including the issues of criminal proceedings, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation said that the joint work of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Senegal against crime, terrorism and drug trafficking is one of the main components of the partnership of law-enforcement agencies of the two states.

First Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Senegal Papa Umar Saho thanked Yury Chaika for his high appraisal of cooperation of the law-enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Senegal and briefed the participants of the meeting on the structure of the judicial bodies of the Republic of Senegal. Papa Umar Saho explained that the Supreme Court of the Republic of Senegal has been working for about a month and it was established by merging the Republic’s Supreme Court of Cassation, formerly headed by him, and the State Council. According to Papa Umar Saho the experience of the judicial and law enforcement bodies of the Russian Federation is of primary importance for the successful organization and functioning of the legal system of the Republic of Senegal. That is why Papa Umar Saho chose the Russian Federation for his first visit in the capacity of the First Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Senegal.

In conclusion the Parties expressed satisfaction over the meeting, mentioning its effectiveness and fruitfulness for further cooperation. The Parties also contemplate in the near future preparing a cooperation agreement on human rights issues, criminal prosecution and a number of other activities.
