Extradition of a Russian national, accused of murder, from the Republic of India

In October 2017, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation forwarded to the Ministry of External Affairs of the Republic of India request for extradition of Mr. Ruslan SAYAKHOV in order to prosecute him under Art. 105 part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder, i.e. intentional infliction of death upon another person).
According to the investigation, in October 2012, in the city of Ufa, Republic of Bashkortostan, Mr. SAYAKHOV, killed his acquaintance, feeling hostility towards her.
In February 2013, the Sovetsky District Court of Ufa, Republic of Bashkortostan, issued decision on applying a measure of restriction in the form of custodial placement on the accused, in his absentia.
In April 2013, on the instruction of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, Mr. SAYAKHOV was placed on an international wanted list for the purpose of his arrest and extradition.
On September 15, 2017, Mr. SAYAKHOV was arrested in India; the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation requested his extradition. On October 27, 2017, the Indian party granted extradition.
Today, on November 7, 2017, on the instruction of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation Mr. SAYAKHOV has been brought to Moscow convoyed by officers of NCB Interpol, Moscow, and the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service.
