Today, on 7 September 2016, a meeting of the Coordinating Council of the Prosecutors General of the member-states of the Commonwealth of Independent States began in Minsk (the Republic of Belarus).
The opening address was made by the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation - Chairman of the Coordination Council of Prosecutors General of member-states of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Yuri Chaika.
He noted that during the meeting the participants will agree on the key areas of their follow-up activities to ensure the rule of law and to protect the citizens’ rights, to coordinate joint efforts in combating crime.
Yuri Chaika thanked the Prosecutor General of Belarus Alexander Vladimirovich Konyuk on behalf of all participants for the warm welcome and hospitality (full text of the opening speech can be found here).
The participants in the event will discuss a wide range of problems. They will address, in particular, the issues of cooperation between the prosecution bodies of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States in combating illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism, human trafficking, illegal migration and fight against corruption, as well as situation with protection of the rights of the citizens, in particular those who are staying outside their states in the territories of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
The meeting of the PGCC was attended by heads of Prosecution services of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Moldova, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan.
The meeting began with a solemn ceremony of commemorative cancellation of the stamp issued by the post service of the Republic of Belarus specially for the 26th Meeting of the Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General of member-states of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
The ceremony was attended by the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Konyuk and Minister of Communications of the Republic of Belarus Sergey Popkov.
