Yury Chayka, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, met with the delegation of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of South Ossetia

On March 29, 2017, in Moscow, Yury CHAYKA, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, met with the delegation of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of South Ossetia headed by Uruzmag DZHAGAYEV, Prosecutor General of the Republic of South Ossetia.

The meeting was also attended by Saak KARAPETYAN, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, Oksana KAPINUS, rector of the Academy of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, officials of relevant departments of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation.

The South Ossetian part was represented by Znaur GASSIYEV, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Ossetia to the Russian Federation, Vasily VALIYEV, Head of the Department of International Legal Cooperation of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of South Ossetia, Revaz BESTAYEV, 2nd Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of South Ossetia to the Russian Federation.

Addressing the participants of the meeting the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation referred to the contribution of the prosecution services of both countries to strengthening Russian – South Ossetian relations, which are developed on the basis of the bilateral Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance.

Signing of the agreement on cooperation between the Prosecutor General’s Offices of Russia and South Ossetia in 2008, as well as of memorandum on cooperation guidelines for 2009-2011, and implementation of rich cooperation program in 2013-2014, has brought the relations between the prosecution services of both countries on a new level.

Over these years Russian and South Ossetian prosecutors have regularly shared their experience. A lot of questions have been discussed: supervision over law compliance by authorities charged with operational and search activity, inquiry and preliminary investigation; protection of interests of state and public; ensuring observance of human rights and freedoms; suppression of corruption and terrorism; international cooperation on extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters.

Yury CHAYKA emphasized the necessity of further efficient cooperation of Russian and South Ossetian prosecution services. Therefore he suggested that optimal tracks should be designed for further implementation of the agreement on interagency cooperation on the issues of mutual interest.

In conclusion Yury CHAYKA, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, stressed the importance of partnership between the prosecution services of Russia and South Ossetia and reiterated strong commitment to its further development.
