Meeting held between the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chaika and President of the Supreme Court of Cyprus Myron Nikolatos

Today, on the 13th of July 2017, a meeting was held in the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation between the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chaika and President of the Supreme Court of Cyprus Myron Nikolatos.

The meeting was attended by Deputies Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Saak Karapetyan and Leonid Korzhinek, Head of the Department of International Cooperation of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation Boris Nikiforov, the judges of the Supreme Court of Cyprus and heads of subdivisions of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation.

Yury Chaika noted the effectiveness of the last October visit to Nicosia of the delegation of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation.

At present the Russian-Cypriot relations are consistently developing both at the political level and in the area of legal cooperation.

More than ten years ago the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation signed a Memorandum on Cooperation with the Law Offices of the Republic of Cyprus. A program of activities was implemented on its basis. In October 2017, a similar document is planned to be signed with the Ministry of Justice of Cyprus.

The Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation stressed that in general the interaction between the two states in the area of extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters is successful. In this connection he expressed hope for expediting the execution of such requests.

During the meeting the representatives of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation briefed about the structure and organization of work of the Russian Prosecution Service, including the peculiarities of participation of prosecutors in criminal, civil and arbitration proceedings. They also answered questions of the representatives of the Cyprus delegation.

In conclusion Yury Chaika reiterated the strong commitment for further development of cooperation with the competent authorities of Cyprus.
