On the extradition to Russia from the Republic of Cyprus of a Russian citizen accused of murder for hire

At the request of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, the Cypriot competent authorities extradited the Russian citizen to Russia.

He is accused of a crime covered by Article 33 (3), Article 105 (2 "з") the RF Criminal Code (organization of murder for mercenary motives, for hire).

According to investigation, from June to December 2001, a citizen requested that the accused protect him from illegal actions of his acquaintance. As it appeared impossible to persuade the latter, the wrongdoer decided to organize a murder, for which murder he received a monetary reward of 50 thousand rubles.

In order to realize the intent, the perpetrators were found, and in March 2002, they killed the victim and received money for the murder.

Since the accused escaped from the court, in August 2013, he was placed on a federal wanted list, and in August 2016, - on the international wanted list.

Once the wrongdoer was established in Cyprus, in April 2017, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation forwarded a request to the Cypriot competent authorities for his extradition.

As a result of considerable and painstaking work carried out by the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, the repeated negotiations with Cypriot colleagues, transmission of a large amount of documents of the criminal file, the coordination of actions with the prosecutor's office of the Republic of Karelia,

a favourable decision was issued granting the extradition of the accused person to Russia for his criminal prosecution.

The wrongdoer was handed over to the Russian law enforcement agencies.
