Today, on 30 November 2017, a grand opening ceremony of opening the regional representative office of the International Association of Prosecutors took place in St. Petersburg.
The regional office of the International Association of Prosecutors will be a center for interaction between prosecutors from the CIS countries and Eastern Europe. It is located in the premises of the Kochubey mansion on the Konnogvardeisky boulevard - a beautiful example of architecture, designed by Harold Bosse. In 1853, the project of the facade of the building was approved by Emperor Nicholas I. The house was finished in 1857.
The event was attended by the leaders of the Association, including its President Gerhard Jarosch and Secretary General Han Moraal, prosecutors general of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the CIS member states, as well as representatives of Russian state bodies.
In his welcoming speech, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chaika noted that the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia was one of the originators of the organization of the International Association of Prosecutors 20 years ago and earned confidence as a reliable partner in international legal cooperation capable of solving complex problems. "I think this was a weighty argument in favor of the decision made by the Executive Committee of the International Association of Prosecutors to open the first regional representation of the world prosecutors’ community in Russia, in St. Petersburg," said Yuri Chaika.
The agreement on hosting the IAP office in Russia was reached in 2014 during the meetings of Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika with President of the International Association of Prosecutors and the IAP Secretary General.
The fact that the Association uniting about half a million prosecutors from 172 countries initiated the establishment of its office in Russia is another confirmation of the high status of the Russian Prosecution Service on the international scene.
"I am confident that the office being opened today will become a full-fledged center of cooperation between prosecutors of the CIS and Eastern Europe, and its activities will promote mutual partnership for the interests of our states," the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation said.
The International Association of Prosecutors was established in 1995 under the auspices of the United Nations and is the only worldwide non-governmental and non-political organization of prosecutors.
