Extradition of a Russian national, accused of murder and assault with robbery, from Germany

In August 2017, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation submitted to the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection of the Federal Republic of Germany a request for extradition of Ruslan GARUNOV for his prosecution under Art. 162 part 4 “a” of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (assault with robbery, performed with application of force dangerous to life and health by a group of persons by preliminary agreement, as well as with the use of weapon, causing grave harm to health of the victim) and under Art. 105 part 2 “h” of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder, committed out of mercenary motives, and likewise associated with assault).
The investigation detected that on June 25, 2015, in Moscow, GARUNOV, together with his accomplices, assaulted with weapon a courier of “ECOM” LLC, who supplied iPhones 6. They stole the property in the amount of 92,000 roubles. The courier tried to stop the robbers, but GARUNOV fired at his head, causing his death.
The Kuntsevsky District Court of Moscow issued an arrest warrant against GARUNOV in his absentia.
By the order of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, a Red Notice concerning the fugitive was issued.
GARUNOV was located in the Federal Republic of Germany; and a request for his extradition was submitted. The request was considered by the German party on December 18, 2017, and the extradition was granted.
Today, on January 19, 2018, by the order of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, GARUNOV, convoyed by officers of the NCB Interpol, Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, will be brought to Moscow.
