On the extradition from the Czech Republic of Russian citizen Grigory Karlov accused of fraud and taking bribes

Today, on 21 March 2018, at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of the Czech Republic extradited to Russia the Russian citizen Grigory Karlov.

He is accused by the investigating authorities of the commission of crimes under Art. 290 (3), (5 “c”) of the Criminal Code (taking bribes) and Art. 159 (4) (fraud on a particularly large scale) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

According to investigators, from April 2013 to April 2014, Karlov, being the head of the Anti-corruption and Economic Security Division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, "Volgodonskoye", General Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Rostov region, received through intermediaries large bribes for not bringing bribe-takers to administrative and criminal responsibility.

Apart form that, he stole and sold alcohol and other products confiscated during the inspection and procedural actions on an especially large scale.

The criminal matter against Grigory Karlov is being handled by the Investigative Division for Volgodonsk, the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Rostov Region.

Since Karlov absconded from criminal prosecution and fled from the territory of the Russian Federation, he was put on the wanted list.

In June 2016, after he was identified in the territory of the Czech Republic, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation sent a request for his extradition to the Czech competent authorities, which was granted in February 2018.

Owing to the coordinated close interaction between the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation and the competent authorities of the Czech Republic, a decision on its extradition was obtained in February 2018.

Today, escorted by the officers of the Federal Penitentiary Service and NCB of Russia, Grigory Karlov will be extradited to Russia.
