Extradition of a Russian Citizen Aleksandr Gebert Charged with the Incitement to Murder of a Businessman, from Hungary

Today, on March 28, 2018, pursuant to a request from the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation the competent authorities of Hungary are extraditing a Russian citizen Aleksandr Gebert to the Russian Federation.
He is being charged with the commission of criminal offences provided for in Article 33, paragraphs 4,5, Article 105 paragraph 2 sub-paragraph “z” (encouraging and assisting the commission of a murder) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, by the investigative authorities.
As per the investigation, in the city of Volgograd in November 2013, Mr. Gebert induced his acquaintance to arrange a contract murder of a rival, who had established a monopoly in many areas, and paid for it. In May 2014 the perpetrator committed a murder of the businessman.
Since Mr. Gebert absconded from criminal prosecution and left the territory of the Russian Federation, he was put on the wanted list.
In connection with the fact that his whereabouts had been established in the territory of Hungary, in March 2017, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation sent a request pertaining to his extradition, to the competent authorities of the said State, which was granted in February 2018.
Today, accompanied by the officers of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia and the Russian Bureau of INTERPOL Mr. Aleksandr Gebert is being extradited to Russia.
