Extradition of Denis Edrenkin, Russian Citizen, Charged with Especially Large Scale Fraud, from the Republic of Austria to the Russian Federation

Today, on June 1, 2018, pursuant to a request from the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation the competent authorities of the Republic of Austria are extraditing a Russian citizen Mr. Denis Edrenkin to the Russian Federation.

He is being charged with the commission of a criminal offence provided for in Article 159 paragraph 4 (fraud on an especially large scale) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, by the investigative authorities.

As per the investigation, in the city of Ufa during the period from November 2016 to January 2017, Mr. Edrenkin, Director of the Limited Liability Company “Agro-Trading”, with the use of his official position, stole the pecuniary funds that belonged to the enterprise “Irbitsky Dairy Plant”, amounting to more than 53 million rubles.

Since he absconded from criminal prosecution and left the territory of the Russian Federation, in September 2017, Mr. Edrenkin was put on the international wanted list.

In January 2018, he was detained in the territory of the Republic of Austria.

In February 2018, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation sent the request pertaining to his extradition to Russia, to the competent authorities of the Republic of Austria.

As early as March 2018, the close interaction between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Austrian colleagues resulted in a positive decision pertaining to his extradition.

The Investigative Unit for Organized Criminal Activity Investigations of the General Investigations Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Bashkortostan is handling a criminal case against Mr. Edrenkin.

Today, accompanied by the officers of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia and the Russian Bureau of INTERPOL Mr. Denis Edrenkin is being extradited to Russia.
