Russian national, Batkaev Ruslan Abdul-Khamitovich was extradited from the Arab Republic of Egypt upon request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation.

He is accused of the commission of a crime, stipulated by Article 159 part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Fraud, committed by a person with the use of his official position, on a large scale).

According to the investigation, on May 18, 2010 in the city of Astrakhan, Mr. Batkaev, by deceit and breach of trust, acquired 10 tons of fish products, to the sum of more than 300 thousand rubles, at the warehouse of the fishing artel “Laguna”. Promising to pay off for the products, he escaped from the seller and disposed of the stolen products at his own discretion.

In the course of the investigation, Mr. Batkaev was brought to justice as the accused in absentia and was declared wanted. The court selected a measure of restriction in the form of detention in respect to him.

In 2012 the perpetrator was detained on the territory of Egypt, and a request for his extradition with the view of making him criminally liable was sent to the Ministry of Justice of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Owing to the orchestrated actions of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and close interaction with the competent bodies of Egypt, Russia managed to secure extradition of Mr. Batkaev in spite of the absence of the extradition treaty with this State.

Mr. Batkaev was handed over to the Russian party in Cairo. In the near future he will appear before the court.
