Russian National Aslan Gagiev Charged with Especially Grave Crimes, Including Organization of Contract Killing, Extradited from Austria to Russia

Today, on June 20, 2018, upon a request from the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of the Republic of Austria are extraditing Aslan Gagiev, Russian national, to Russia.

He is accused by the investigation authorities of the commission of crimes stipulated by Article 210 (organization of a criminal community), Article 209 part 1 (banditry), Article 105 part 2 (murder), Article 222 part 3 (illegal trafficking in firearms), Article 159 part 4 (fraud) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

According to the investigation, the criminal organization created and headed by Gagiev included more than 50 members. They are responsible for dozens of contract killings, encroachments on lives of officials of law-enforcement agencies, and attempted murders.

Since Gagiev had hidden from criminal prosecution, he was placed on the international wanted list in 2014.

In May 2015, the accused was detained in the territory of Austria. After that the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation took measures aimed at Gagiev’s extradition to Russia.

The Austrian party was provided with additional information and materials in connection with numerous complaints from the defense, including an alleged “aerophobia” complaint.

In June 2018, the close interaction of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation with the competent authorities of the Republic of Austria resulted in a positive decision on his extradition.

Aslan Gagiev was brought to Moscow accompanied by a special escort.

The criminal case is pending at the Main Investigations Directorate for the North Caucasian Federal District of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

Earlier, in February 2018, Artur Dzhioev, a member of the mentioned criminal organization, who had actually been Gagiev’s “right hand”, was extradited to Russia from Greece. With his direct participation several killings were committed, including the killing of the Deputy Prosecutor of the Promyshlenniy District of Vladikavkaz Oleg Oziyev in 2013.
