Today, on 17 August 2018, at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, Alexander Chesnokov, a Russian citizen, was extradited from the Republic of Bulgaria.
He is accused of the commission of the crime defined in Article 30 (4 "g"), Article 228.1 (attempted illegal sale of narcotic drugs, by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, on a large scale) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
According to the investigation, on 20 June 2017, Chesnokov, by preliminary conspiracy with his accomplices, purchased about 1 kg of a mixture containing cocaine. The wrongdoers were later going to sell it in St. Petersburg. However, they failed to bring their intent to the end, because during the operational-search activities one of the accomplices of the crime was detained, and the narcotic substance was seized.
Since Chesnokov disappeared from law enforcement agencies, he was put on the wanted list.
In July 2018, after his whereabouts were established in the territory of Bulgaria, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation sent a request to the competent authorities of that state for the extradition of the accused.
Owing to the coordinated actions of the Prosecutor General 's Office of the Russian Federation and organized close cooperation with the competent authorities of the Republic of Bulgaria, it was possible to obtain a decision on his extradition.
Accompanied by a special convoy, Alexander Chesnokov was brought to Moscow.
