Russian citizen accused of participation in an illegal armed formation was extradited from Bosnia and Herzegovina to Russia

Today, on October 25, 2018, at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina extradited the RF citizen Ahmed Altamirov to Russia.
He is accused by the investigating authorities of committing a crime under Article 208 (2) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
According to the investigators, in November 2013, Altamirov illegally went to Syria, where he voluntarily joined an illegal armed group acting in the territory of that country and took part in hostilities against Syrian government forces.
Since Altamirov hid from prosecution, he was put on the international wanted list at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation.
In March 2018, he was detained in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and after that the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation sent a request for his extradition with the view of his criminal prosecution.
Owing to the close cooperation of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation with the competent authorities of this state, it was possible to secure a decision on his extradition.
Ahmed Altamirov was brought to Moscow accompanied by a special escort.
