Today, on April 26, 2019, at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, Ramazan Salamov, Russian citizen, was extradited from the Kingdom of Morocco. He is accused of committing a crime stipulated by Article 208 (2) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in illegal armed formations).

According to the investigators, at the beginning of 2016, Salamov joined an illegal armed group, knowing the act to be wrong.

After the perpetrator’s illegal act became known, he absconded from the law-enforcement authorities. Therefore, the court selected against him a measure of restraint in the form of detention. Salamov was put on the international wanted list.

He was detained in the territory of the Kingdom of Morocco. In August 2018, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation sent to the Ministry of Justice of the Kingdom of Morocco a request for extradition of the detainee with the view of criminal prosecution.

Thanks to the coordinated actions of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and to the organized close cooperation with the competent authorities of Morocco, it was possible to secure a decision on extradition of Salamov to Russia.

The Federal Penitentiary Service and the Interpol National Central Bureau of the MIA of Russia accepted and delivered him to the territory of the Russian Federation.

The criminal case against Salamov is being investigated by the Division for Investigation of Crimes in the Service Territory No. 1 of the Investigation Department of the Administration for the City of Makhachkala of the Republic of Dagestan of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
