Based on materials received from the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Latvia, a citizen of Russia was convicted for illicit trafficking in arms and ammunition

Based on materials from competent authorities of the Republic of Latvia, Krasninskiy District Court of the Smolensk Region passed a sentence on Vitaliy Khaleev, citizen of the Russian Federation. He was found guilty of illicit acquisition, storage, and transportation of traumatic firearms and cartridges for them.
The criminal case against Khaleev was investigated by the authorities of the Republic of Latvia. In 2018, it was established that Khaleev was located in the territory of Russia. After that, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Latvia applied to the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation. Pursuant to the Treaty between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Latvia on legal assistance and legal relations in civil, family and criminal matters, the criminal case materials along with a request for criminal prosecution were transferred to the Russian party.
Due to successful cooperation of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation with Latvian colleagues, the court declared Khaleev guilty of the incriminated crime. He was sentenced to 3 years of deprivation of freedom with three years' probation and a fine in the amount of 90 thousand roubles.
