A citizen of the Republic of Belarus was convicted by the Belarusian court of a theft in the territory of the Russian Federation

The Belarusian court found a citizen of the Republic of Belarus guilty of the commission of the crime in the territory of the Russian Federation provided for by Article 158 (2) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (theft). He was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment. In conjunction with the crime committed in the territory of the Republic of Belarus, he was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment.
By the decision of the same court, a Russian company’s civil claim against this person for compensation for the damage caused by the crime was sustained.
The criminal case was investigated by the Investigative Unit of the Division for the Cheboksary District of the Chuvash Republic of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
The investigation established that the malefactor, in January 2018, in a car parking lot in Yadrinskiy District of the Chuvash Republic, entered into a preliminary criminal collusion with another person in order to steal a fuel card of network fuel stations with the view of selling fuel using the card. They stole 3701 liters of diesel fuel which belonged to a Russian company.
After locating this person in the territory of the Republic of Belarus, the materials of the case, together with the request for his criminal prosecution, were transferred by the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation to the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Belarus, pursuant to the Convention on Legal Assistance and Legal Relations in Civil, Family and Criminal Matters of January 22, 1993.
