Russia extradited to Poland a person accused of robbery and abduction committed 17 years ago

The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation granted the request of the competent authorities of the Republic of Poland for extradition of Andrey Trifonov for bringing him to penal liability.
He is accused of crimes provided for by Article 280 (2) (robbery) and Article 252 (1) (abduction) of the Penal Code of the Republic of Poland.
The prosecution authorities of the Republic of Poland are carrying out proceedings in the criminal cases.
In the course of the pre-trial investigation, it was established that, in October 2004, in Warsaw, Trifonov, by previous concert with other persons, assaulted Li Long. He hit him on the head with a wooden bludgeon, making him unconscious, and after that he stole his property valued at 32 250 zlotys.
Furthermore, in December 2004, he with his accomplices, using violence, abducted Trung Tuan Tran. Taking him hostage, in order to obtain a ransom, he took him to another locality in the Republic of Poland, where he detained him, demanding 300 thousand zlotys in exchange for his release.
The District Court Warsaw-Praga in Warsaw and the District Court in Ostroleka, Republic of Poland, applied a preventive measure in the form of a temporary arrest in relation to Trifonov, and he was placed in the wanted list.
Trifonov’s actions are punishable according to the Russian criminal law. The statute of limitations for criminal prosecution has not expired.
The decision of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation on extradition of Trifonov has entered into legal force, and therefore the Federal Penitentiary Service was instructed to carry out his handover.
Accompanied by a special convoy, Andrey Trifonov will be delivered to Poland.
