Romania extradited to Russia a person accused of illegal organization of gambling

At the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, competent authorities of Romania extradited to Russia Mikhail Chuboteresku with the view of making him criminally liable.
He is accused of perpetration of a crime envisaged by Article 171.2 part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal organization and conduct of gambling).
Under the investigation, not later than in March 2013 Mr. Chuboteresku together with other persons agreed to organize and conduct gambling outside the game zone. Implementing their criminal plan, Mr. Chuboteresku together with his accomplices found a place in the village of Makarovo, Podolsk District of the Moscow Region. They equipped premises with 20 game machines rigged with the monetary prize software, found employees, who took cash from clients, inserted credits to game machines, recorded data from machines, calculated profit and paid money to security.
Thus, Mr. Chuboteresku derived income in the sum of more than 6 million rubles.
Since the accused had fled from the law enforcement authorities, he was declared wanted and a measure of restriction in the form of detention was selected against him.
In March 2021 Mr. Chuboteresku was detained on the territory of Romania and the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation sent a request for his extradition to foreign colleagues.
Owing to coordinated activities of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, and well-organized close cooperation with the competent authorities of Romania, a positive decision on his extradition was taken.
Mikhail Chuboteresku will be brought to Russia.
