Within the framework of the St. Petersburg Legal Forum Mr. Yury Chayka, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, met Ms. Andreja Katie, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Slovenia

Today, on May 16, 2019, within the framework of the St. Petersburg Legal Forum, a meeting was held between Mr. Yury Chayka, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, and Ms. Andreja Katie, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Slovenia.

The event was also attended by Mr. Alexey Zakharov, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, Ms. Katja Rejec Longar, Director of Office of International Cooperation and International Legal Assistance of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Slovenia, Ms. Dasa Vidmar Miksic, Advisor to the Department of International Cooperation and International Legal Assistance of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr. Branko Rakovec, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Slovenia in the Russian Federation, superiors of the divisions of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and representatives of the Slovenian delegation.

The Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation noted the constructive development of the Russian-Slovenian interaction in general, and in the law enforcement sphere in particular.

Mr. Yury Chayka emphasized that the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Slovenia, which were the central competent authorities pertaining to the issues of extradition of individuals and legal assistance in criminal matters, had a common goal so that persons who committed unlawful acts or concealed proceeds from illegal activities, would have no chance to escape punishment by absconding from justice in another state, taking advantage of differences in legal systems.

Mr. Yury Chayka also suggested discussing all the issues arising out in the course of interaction betweerPoffices on a routine basis during bilateral consultations with the participation of experts from the Russian Prosecution Service and the Slovenian judicial authorities.

The Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation also invited the Slovenian colleagues to take part in the upcoming celebration on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the Russian Prosecution Service, which would be held in January 2022.

Mr. Yury Chayka expressed confidence that holding joint working meetings in the future would contribute to maintaining the constructive Russian-Slovenian collaboration.
