A meeting was held at the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation with the delegation of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Armenia

Today, on 20 November 2019, in the framework of the Program of Cooperation between the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation and the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Armenia for 2018-2020, a round table was held at the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation on the topic: “Prosecutorial supervision over compliance with laws in criminal proceedings involving minors. ”

The event was attended by senior prosecutors of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Armenia Karen Karapetyan and Gayane Gasparyan. The Russian side was represented by the members of the relevant department of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, as well as the General Department of International Legal Cooperation, the General Department for Supervision of Investigation, Inquiry and Operational and Detective Activities, and the General Department of Criminal Justice.

In her opening remarks, Marina Zaitseva, Head of the Department for Supervision over the Observance of the Rights, Freedoms and Legitimate interests of Minors of the General Department for Supervision over the Federal Law noted that the protection of minors from unlawful and unjustified charges, convictions, and ensuring compliance with their procedural rights is a priority activity of the prosecution service of the Russian Federation.

The Head of the Department for Supervision over the Investigation of Criminal Matters Involving Minors and in Respect of Them of the above Department Vadim Nekhotyaev dwelt in detail on the peculiarities of criminal prosecution of minors and supervisory work in this area.

In addition, representatives of the General Department for Supervision of Investigation, Inquiry and Operational and Detective Activities and the General Department of Criminal Justice informed their foreign colleagues about the peculiarities of the Russian criminal and criminal procedural legislation in the criminal prosecution against minors, including during the trial.

During the event, the parties exchanged experience in the organization of prosecutorial supervision over compliance with laws in criminal proceedings against minors in both countries.

Foreign colleagues informed about the powers of the prosecution bodies in the area of criminal jurisdiction in respect of minors, in particular, the prosecutor’s discretion to initiate criminal cases, including against minors.

The parties agreed on further cooperation.
