The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation held a commemorative meeting to mark the 299th anniversary of the Prosecution Service of the Russian Federation. Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan Kamran Aliyev and Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Artur Davtyan, at the invitation of Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov, took part in the event.
During the visit, bilateral meetings and a trilateral Russian-Azerbaijani-Armenian meeting were held.
Welcoming the foreign guests, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov said:
“I am sincerely glad to welcome you at the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation and I am thankful to you that despite the coronavirus pandemic and your busy schedule, you have come to Moscow to share with us the spirit of the professional holiday of Russian prosecutors.
Our meeting is acquiring a landmark character in the light of the agreements reached yesterday by the President of Russia, the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia at the trilateral negotiations addressing the situation in Nagorny-Karabakh, including on providing assistance to the people living the regions affected by the hostilities.
I would like to note a special nature of the relationship between the prosecutors of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia, based on the good traditions of friendship and mutual respect.
We successfully cooperate in a bilateral format, as well as in the frameworks of international organizations such as the UN, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Council of Europe, the Interstate Anti-Corruption Council, and the International Association of Prosecutors.
Moreover, we hold similar positions on most issues of cooperation in the legal sphere.
Further development of the working relations of prosecutors serves the interests of the peoples of all three states and will contribute to strengthening stability in the Transcaucasian region.
I am confident that the constructive dialogue will continue to develop intensively.
We are faced with common tasks to combat modern threats: terrorism, corruption, cybercrime, environmental crimes, as well as to ensure the protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens, primarily the most vulnerable groups, including minors.
No state is capable of fighting transnational crime alone. Effective work in this area requires the knowledge and efforts of each prosecutor. But we, dear colleagues, especially appreciate your personal contribution to strengthening international cooperation.
I am sure that our meeting today will have a positive impact on the work of prosecutors of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia.
I look forward to more frequent personal contacts this year, including at international forums.
I invite you to St. Petersburg, where at the beginning of July this year we are planning, together with the Secretariat of the Council of Europe, to hold a conference of heads of prosecutors of European states. I look forward to your personal participation in it.
I will also be glad to see you, colleagues, next January in Moscow at the celebrations to mark the 300th anniversary of the Russian Prosecution Service”.
During the bilateral meetings, the parties discussed the most topical aspects of human rights and law enforcement activities.
As a follow-up of bilateral meetings, programs of cooperation were signed between the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation and the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Armenia.
The documents provide for holding of joint activities, in particular, on combating corruption, the offenses committed with the use of information and communication technologies, environmental crimes, as well as on cooperation in extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters, including the organization of the search, arrest, confiscation and return from abroad of the property derived from crime.
In addition, Igor Krasnov presented certificates of appreciation of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation to Kamran Aliyev and Artur Davtyan.
