Extradition of Russian national Vyacheslav Gein, accused of fatal car accident, from Italy

Today, on May 7, 2018, upon the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of the Italian Republic are extraditing Russian national Vyacheslav Gein to Russia.
He is accused of a crime, envisaged by Article 264 part 5 (Violation by a Person Driving a Car of Traffic Rules and Rules of Operation of Transport Vehicles, Entailed by Negligence the Causing of Grave Harm to Human Health and Death of Two Persons) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
According to the investigative bodies, in November 2014, close to the Krasnodonsky settlement of the Bagaevsk District of the Rostov Region, Mr. Gein, driving VAZ-21083 vehicle, violated the traffic rules and collided with an oncoming car.
As a result of the road accident, the aggrieved driver got heavy body injures, and two passengers, including a child, died onsite.
As long as Mr. Gein had escaped from criminal prosecution, in July 2017 he was declared internationally wanted.
In August 2017, after his whereabouts had been established on the territory of Italy, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation sent to the competent authorities of Italy a request for his extradition with the purpose of brining him to criminal liability.
Owing to the close cooperation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the competent authorities of the Italian Republic, in April 2018 his extradition was granted.
This criminal case in being inquired by the investigative bodies of the Bagaevsk District of the Rostov Region.
Vyacheslav Gein will be escorted to Moscow by the special convoy.
