Two-Day IAP GPEN Workshop started in Saint Petersburg

A two-day workshop of the Global Prosecutors E-Crime Network of the International Association of Prosecutors on the topic “Sharing Professional Experience on Combating Cybercrime” has started today, on June 5, 2018, on the basis of the IAP regional office in Saint Petersburg.
The event has been organized in compliance with the decision of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, taken on May 7, 2018 in conjunction with the executives of the International Association of Prosecutors.
During these two days, lecturers of the IAP Global Prosecutors E-Crime Network, Mr. Hine Dries (the Netherlands) and Ms. Savina Gruicic (the Republic of Croatia), as well as the officials of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation will conduct 11 educational sessions on the digital criminology, usage of electronic evidence, laundering of monetary funds with the use of virtual and crypto currency, problems of prosecution for crimes committed in Darknet, and on the role of international organizations in combating cybercrime.
Representatives of the Prosecutor’s Offices of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgizia will participate in the event.
Mr. Han Moraal, IAP Secretary General and Chair of the Global Prosecutors E-Crime Networ, and Mr. Denis Grunis, Head of the General Department of International Legal Cooperation of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, addressed the audience during the workshop opening ceremony.
In his speech Mr. Denis Grunis said that the workshop theme is quite topical. Each year the number of requests for legal assistance in criminal cases connected with cybercrime, received by the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, increases. Combating crimes, committed with the use of modern informational and communicational technologies, is in the center of attention of the international prosecutors’ community and is discussed within international events platforms of the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Council of the Baltic Sea States and BRICs.
