Russian Citizen Charged with Rape and Violent Actions of Sexual Character Extradited from Poland

Pursuant to a request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation Mr. Igor Sirotin, Russian citizen born in 1990, has been extradited from the Republic of Poland. He is being charged with the commission of criminal offences provided for in Article 131 paragraph 1 (rape) and Article 132 paragraph 1 (violent actions of sexual character) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

As per the investigation line, on November 18, 2012, staying in the city of Saint Petersburg, Mr. Sirotin being under the influence of alcohol, committed rape and other actions of sexual character in respect of a victim. He fled the scene.

An order pertaining to involving as the accused (i.e. pertaining to brining formal charges) was issued in respect of Mr. Sirotin, he was declared wanted and a preventive measure in the form of taking into custody was imposed on him.

On July 7, 2018, the INTERPOL NCB for Poland advised of the detention of Mr. Sirotin in the territory of the said State. In view of this, on June 26, 2018, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation sent the request for the extradition of the detainee in order to bring him to criminal liability.

On May 24, 2019, the competent authorities of the Republic of Poland decided to grant the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation to extradite Mr. Sirotin to Russia.

At the present moment he has been handed over to the Russian law enforcement authorities and brought to the place of conduct of the investigative actions.

The Investigative Unit for the Petrodvortsoviy District of the Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the city of Saint Petersburg is handling a criminal case against Mr. Sirotin.
