Today, on 9 August 2019, at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of Portugal extradited Russian citizen Sergei Shatalov to Russia.

He is accused of the crimes stipulated in Article 162 (4 “b), Article 126 (2 “a”, “c”, “d”, “h”), Article 163 (3 “b”) of the RF Criminal Code.

According to the investigation, in April 2013, in the Volgograd Region, Shatalov and his accomplices entered the victim’s apartment and robbed him with the use of weapons stealing money and property worth more than 8 million rubles.

Then they abducted the owner the flat and forcibly took him to the cottage, where, using violence, extorted 20 million rubles from him and held him until he managed to free himself.

Since Shatalov escaped from law enforcement bodies, he was put on the wanted list.

In March 2019, after his location was established in Portugal, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation sent a request for extradition of the accused to the Portuguese competent bodies.

Owing to close cooperation between the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation and foreign colleagues, it became possible to have him extradited.

Sergey Shatalov was brought to Moscow accompanied by officers of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia and NCB of Russia.
