At the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of the Federal Republic of Germany extradited a citizen of the Slovak Republic Dimitriy Leonenko to Russia.

He is accused by the Russian law enforcement authorities of committing a crime provided for by Article 264 (5) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation by a person driving a motor vehicle of the traffic rules which has, by negligence, entailed the death of two persons).

According to the investigation, in March 2017, Leonenko, driving a truck IVECO, on the 420th kilometer of the highway M-4 “Don”, exceeded the speed limit and, by negligence, hit a pedestrian and collided with a motor vehicle MAN. As a result of the accident, the pedestrian and passenger in IVECO died at the scene.

Due to the fact that Leonenko absconded from the law enforcement authorities, a measure of restriction in the form of detention was selected for him in absentia, and he was placed on the international wanted list at the instruction of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation.

In September 2020, he was detained in the territory of Germany. After that, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation sent a corresponding request for his extradition for bringing him to criminal liability.

Furthermore, the competent authorities of Germany granted the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation for extradition of a citizen of Ukraine Vitaliy Pochepa for bringing him to criminal liability. He is accused of the fact that, in March 2018, in Moscow, acting in an organized criminal group, he fraudulently stole funds of OOO AlrkoPro.

Pochepa absconded from the law enforcement authorities and was placed on the international wanted list at the instruction of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation.

In September 2019, in connection with a message from Interpol NCB of Germany about his detention, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia sent a request for his extradition.

It was possible to attain the extradition of the accused due to the large amount of the work which had been done, the organized close interaction with German colleagues, and the timely provision by the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation of the additional information and guarantees requested by the German party.

The Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia and Interpol NCB of the MIA of the Russian Federation were instructed to take and deliver both of the accused to the territory of Russia.
