Today, on the margins of the Conference of Heads of Prosecutor's Offices of the European States on the subject of “Role of Prosecutor's Office in Protection of Individual Rights and Public Interest in light of Requirements of the European Convention on Human Rights” Mr. Igor Krasnov, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, has met with Mr. Yakup Moğol, Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Turkey, during which with a view to strengthening the bilateral collaboration, the first Cooperation Programme was signed between the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Turkey for 2021-2022.
Mr. Igor Krasnov noted that the socio-political situation in the Eurasian area had enormous potential for the development in numerous areas, primarily in the economic sphere, and that predetermines an increase in the activity in other spheres, and escalating needs of society for ensuring justice and legality.
The Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation said, ‘This document demonstrates the determination of our offices to conduct consistent joint work to counter such phenomena as terrorism, cybercrime and other types of illegal acts.
The implementation of the joint activities provided for in the Programme will improve the understanding of legal systems of Russia and Turkey and make a big step towards each other in order to establish productive cooperation for the sake of security of the Russian and Turkish people.
I trust that this is only the beginning of a collaborative journey.’
The head of the supervisory authority also stressed that the importance of strengthening the cooperation between the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Turkey and the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation in their capacity as the competent authorities in the field of extradition of individuals for criminal prosecution could not be overestimated.
He also added, ‘The proximity of our countries, the strength of political, trade and tourism ties between our States predetermines a large volume of working issues to each other.’
Mr. Igor Krasnov expressed confidence that during the implementation of the joint Cooperation Programme a legal solution would be found pertaining to each issue due to concerted efforts.
Today, the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation held a bilateral meeting with Mr. Bekir Şahin, General Prosecutor of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Turkey.
Having discussed the issues of interaction and recalled the signing of the Cooperation Programme between the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Turkey for 2021-2022, Mr. Igor Krasnov noted that the interaction among prosecutors required the same dynamic development as well. ‘In case of mutual interest in doing so, I propose to start forming the necessary legal framework for this matter.’
